Focal Length Comparisons

there have been occasional posts on this site asking the difference between focal lengths of different lenses.

this site http://images.blw.net/blw/focal_lengths/ give a very simple illustrated demonstration of different lenses all taken for the exact same position. I hope it helps.

Re: Focal Length Comparisons

Anyway, back to the topic, is this bit they refer to when saying a cropped sensor has a ratio of 1.6:1 (Canon) or 1.5:1 (Nikon) or am I off track here.

Therefore my 70-300 is really a 112-480 when compared to a full frame sensor???.

Or is there yet more jargon to confuse me to look forward to.

I'm afraid there is more to confuse you....lots more!

This ORIGINAL thread was about the different magnifications of various lenses from a fixed point.

Crop factor has been explained in a great thread from KK here: http://www.yophotographer.com/page.p...sor+crop+sizes

Re: Focal Length Comparisons

Aaaaaaaargh!!!

It took me three days to switch the flaming thing on.

Sometimes people think too much. Just go out and take some photos.

It's more fun than maths and physics.

Re: Focal Length Comparisons

This is the one i use...

http://lens-reviews.com/Lenses/Canon...-f1.8-USM.html

You need to click on "field of view with this lens" on the tabs to bring up a picture and you can switch between cameras with that lens to give you the different field of views
