Re: Different Areas of photography?

Phew the million dollar question.

What are you good at?

How do you want to sell your photos?

Where can you take wildlife pics, close by?

The list is endless.

Find out what you enjoy and are good at and investigate from there.

Re: Different Areas of photography?

You need to get into an area of photography that you enjoy. If your heart and soul isnt in it, that will reflect in your captures. You will end up bored.

Wildlife photography is a hard area, but it can be thrilling. Think of all the amazing places you can travel too and the things you will see. If thats your love, you will get so much more than monetary sasisfaction from it!

EVERY field of photography is hard to break, but if your good at it, you will succeed and reap he rewards.

Re: Different Areas of photography?

I think it would be a good idea to make a list of what the options are, and then try to give each a weighting of how much in demand they are.

Then look at the ones that interest you - and see how 'tough' (or not) they may be to get into

I think wedding/portrait photographers would be somewhere near the top

I would wait until you have finished your course before making any decision, you will be in a better position to follow the type of photography you want to take.

Re: Different Areas of photography?

Where do I begin? There are so many directions you can take. I remember, years ago, a photographer standing in front of Rockafeller Center in New york City. It was snowing, near Christmas & here he was shooting poloroids of the shoppers in front of all the decorations around the famous skating rink. He couldn't load & shoot fast enough. He was making $7 a shot and shooting 20 photos an hour. That was back in 1980. Imagine a digital camera, a laptop & a portable printer today.

If you have any tourist trade in your area you can make custom post cards with the tourists on the card. If you have restaurants you can make brochures, menus, business cards, postcards, etc..

I used to shoot weddings so I can assure you it's a tough way to make a living. If you're good at potraiture you can travel to customer's homes for a family shooting at a flat rate or by the hour. Don't neglect animal portraits.I've seen pro photographers at Botanical gardens with clients, famous waterfalls & parks. These can all be arranged in advanced by you & the clients.

If your good at nature photography you can seel your work to stock photo houses, tourist site shops as calendars, posters, postcards & brochures.

This list goes on & on. You just need to pick your favorite type of shoot & market the products. I hope this helps.
