Old tree

Just going through some old pictures and tried a B&W conversion - taken on the hillside behind our house.

Not sure about it myself but figured I'd just post it anyway.

Don't think there is anything amiss with either the shot or the conversion. Think if problem there be it is that the tree is neither a good specimen nor really tortured, but as I have said before, photography is the art of the possible and the things in front of us are not always as we would wish.

Love it! Love the moodiness and emptiness. It's a great shot and edit.

I think landscapes really do suit B&W.
Would you do a lesson in mono conversion, please. I keep requesting one, but nobody does one.The mono shots that you do of landscapes are great, so how about it?

I like the bw effect and the subject matter, probably say you made the best of that situation and I like the pic. What I think detracts from the overall result is the fact the eye can escape to the landscape and 'other life' on the right. My guess is these work better when the eye is trapped within the frame and there is only the dead tree to see.

The only thing I would change about it is something you had no control over... the valley of houses/properties in the background. I love shots where there is just nature, no real sign of man - completely a personal thing!

Phil it works well. I have to agree with Azz though, the houses in the background were drawing my eye away. Can you photograph the trees from another angle?

Really nice image, Phil. I can't help but think though, that the tree to the left would have looked great imaged on it's own, with the same b/w treatment.

I've got 5 or 6 images saved and from memory one of them might just fit the bill.
