Young White Tailed Sea Eagle

Another couple of birdie pictures.

White Tailed Sea Eagles are the fourth largest species of eagle in the world, with a wingspan of 9 feet. The adults are mostly brown but have a lighter coloured head and of course a white tail. The young birds are generally brown all over and take 5 or 6 years to gain the full adult plumage.

This one is just over a year old but it's hard to get a sense of scale from these pictures. Golden Eagle sized plus a little bit more I would say. The backgrounds are a bit cluttered - unavoidable but I may do something in photoshop at some point.

Kit 1
Canon 1D Mark 3
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Kit 2
1D2 & 40D

These were taken with Canon 40D and the lens was the EF-S 17-85mm IS USM which is on my kit list below. Top pic is full shot and 2nd is a crop.

It's the lens I really should have used (and used wide) when I was taking pictures of the Vulture swooping accross my head.
