So as not to confuse Flight I'd guess what you mean is she has a dedicated macro lens. The Nikon lens is made by Nikon only for Nikon.

I know this lens will fit the D60 but I think the D60 requires lenses that have an internal AF motor. Not sure if this has or not? Doesn't the S denote it has?

It's a brill lens dedicated and corrected to work at close up work. To be honest you may find a tripod and manual focus better anyway for macro work.

Flight (Hannah)

On here you ask about the 60mm lens yet on another thread you ask about long range lenses. So are you intending to buy both 60mm and 70-300mm or what. Both lenses have completely different purposes, so if I may you really need to consider at this point what type of photography you intend to persue.

There are so many different branches of photography from portraits to landscapes to wildlife/nature to architecture to sports to journalism, you can really only have one main interest if you intend to take up photography with just a passing working knowledge of the other subjects.

What I suspect is happening as your a photographic student is that they are filling your head with different ideas leading to all these questions when really you should be telling them your intentions of which branch of photography you intend to take up.

Or she could just be undecided Bazza. Often I find myself thinking I will get a macro then the next minute I want a long telephoto!

In this thread she is just asking what people think of the 60mm, the replies may help her decide what she herself may want to go for.

Re: NIKON AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G

Azz

This young lady has spent a year on an animal management course and now moved onto a photography course for some reason or other, so I would suspect that wildlife/nature/ animal photography would be her main interest. As she is still a student money is tight therefore I would suggest she went for a lens which would give her the greatest range possible and a 60mm lens wouldn't do that, whereas a 70- 300mm VR in my opinion would fit the bill better. that would incorporate the 60mm range or nigh on as close as but she already owns a 55-200mm anyway.

Like me it takes a time to build up a range of lenses and once you get the "lens must buy" bug it is very hard to stop. As you can see I have gone down that route and now still can see other lenses I would like.

Therefore Hannah if I were you I would hang fire on buying lenses that may not suit you final choice of photography, or until you can afford them. We can all dream of having the best gear on the market but there will always be something better that comes along. When you qualify and get letters after your name and go into commercial photography full time that is when to seriously build up your camera equipment.

By all means ask about lenses price quality etc etc but can I suggest about thinking along what is intended to photograph first.

Wow me trying to be serious ( that must be a first in anyones book). must be old age having that affect
