Re: My website

It's a nice clean site........ but, there had to be a but didn't there some of your images are too large.

I have only had chance to have a quick look and the first thing I do when looking at a site for someone is check the images.

Your image on the homepage is a little heavy at 150kB. I think you could reduce this to 100kB or under which would help the page to load quicker.

Also, in your Wedding Gallery the first picture with the bride in front of the car is 188kB and linear size is 800 x 1195 pixels. This is being scaled down by the browser to 518 x 774 which means you have an large file being downloaded but then wasting a lot of it because it to large for the page.

It is always a good idea to go through every image on a web site and check that your images are not wastefully large. Even in these days of broadband wasted kilobytes being downloaded can still slow a site down considerably. And not everyone is on broadband.

General first impressions are good though.

Re: My website

Do you use Photoshop, Lightroom, Corel or similar. These programs all have there ways of reducing the linear size and the compression of the jpeg to give you lighter (as in less kB's) file.

If you do not have these programs there are freeware image resizing programs on the internet. PIXresizer is one and can be found here http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm. A search on Google will provide alternatives.

I believe Picasa can do it also along with many other features http://picasa.google.com/

Your site is not slow for me either but then I am on 10Mb broadband connection.

If someone visited your site using a modem connection at 56 kb they would have to wait 20 seconds for just the image on the home page to download. So add in the background and other bits and pieces they would probably be waiting for 30 seconds.

The maths behind this are "internet connection speeds are measured in kb/s which is KiloBITS/second, not KiloBYTES/second. There are 8 BITS in a BYTE, therefore a 56kbs connection is actually 56/8 = 7KB/s. So a 160KB image / 7 bytes per second = 22.86 seconds. "

When designing a web site, especially for a business you should design for the lower tech technology and not the state of the art, super fast.

It is a balancing act between speed and accessibility and I believe at the moment you are in danger of isolating potential customers who would be using anything less than broadband. But that is a decision only you can make.

Re: My website

The galleries are a bit slow but think when people are viewing photographs they expect to wait a while. Mind you speed of load is always worth considering because some people are still on dial up. When I am doing my site I try to keep it at a max of 30 sec at 56.6 per page I think as you are showing photographs the a minuet at that speed would be OK.

EDIT: Sorry Steve I posted as you did and you say it with much more detail.
