Glasgow Green

I went to Glasgow Green today and I took these pictures and my friend (Dejavu on here) edited them and cropped them for me

This is the Doulton Fountain in the foreground, the People's Palace directly behind it and to the right of the picture is Nelson's Column, the first in Britain to commemorate his victories! It was erected before the one in Dublin was built and before the one in London was built.

Part of the gardens of the People's Palace

This is the Doulton Fountain, designed by A.E Pearce, modelled by students of Lambeth School of Art, Queen Victoria is on the top of it, it depicts the four Colonies - Australia, Canada, India and South Africa. It's made of Terracotta and is the largest and best example of its kind remaining in the world.

The building behind this photo is, what was Templeton's Carpet Factory. It was designed by Leiper and he based the design on the Doges Palace in Venice. The factory closed in 1982 and is now Templeton's Business Centre.

Glasgow Green is the oldest park in Glasgow

I took them with my new camera, Canon 400 D, which I bought from my friend when he bought his new one. I found it much lighter and easier to hold than my Canon 300D, I can hold it with my right hand much better (can't hold cameras with my left very well since an accident I had with my left one).
Kit 1
Canon 400D, Canon 300D
Canon lens EF 135 mm f/2.8 soft focus
Canon EFS 18-55mm

Aw Carole, now that is a pity you didn't go! You never know, we may have bumped into each other! Oh, I love that place but never managed to go in to it today! I was really delighted to see the changes made to the front of the Palace! I remember Billy Connoly's big banana feet being shown in there!! He went to school just down the road from me in Govan, where I came from originally!!

I will be going back there and this time go inside it again. I used to love seeing the old kitchen they had on display - reminded me of my Granny's kitchen - black iron sink and swan necked cold tap!!!

Take care

Many thanks Phil - I am not all that good with the camera but I found the Canon 400D much lighter for me to hold - didn't shake so much using my right hand!! And yes, Dejavu is very talented!

Re: Glasgow Green

Great pics, and great editing, what a wonderful place, makes me want to move to Scotland I know what you mean about camera shake, because of my other health problems I aslo have a slight tremor which comes and goes, a tripod really helps, but it's taking a bit of time getting used to it
