Answering posts.

What makes you decide if you are going to answer a post or not?

Do you answer every post you look at?

Do you only look at certain subjects?

I am asking because i think, sadly it has gone quiet on here of late and i am also very nosy!!

Re: Answering posts.

I try and look at every thread but lately its not been possible to reply to them all When Dogsey/Catsey are busy most of my pc time is spent on there but when its quiet I have more time to reply on here

Forums always seems to be quieter in the summer months I have noticed.

Re: Answering posts.

I think it depends on the topic - and whether it interests the person

I don't think it's gone 'that' quiet tbh, although it usually does this time of year due to summer holidays. Weekends are always quieter than weekdays tho.

Re: Answering posts.

I dont think there is one thing that makes me decide, some days I answer more than others.
Forums tend to be quieter during the summer months, more so if we get a little sun. Also the olympics have been on and they tend to draw in even non-sport fans.

Re: Answering posts.

I should also say that it hasn't been warm enough for me to go out and take pics, hence I haven't posted many! Went out with the cam the other day but it was freezing - I just let Rocky go off and come back when he was ready (took some pics but they were crap!).

Re: Answering posts.

Don't really know why I reply to some but not others.

Regardless of whether I reply I do look at every post though.

If folk post pics of stuff I tend to photograph then I'll reply with comments but sometimes (If I'm honest) I'll find myself saying - "great shot" or something similar coz I like it but know nothing about it.

Re: Answering posts.

Think it depends on if I have something to say. Read all the posts I come across and if I feel I want to reply or have something to add then I do.

Do find that some peoples work appeals and others produce images that are just not my thing. I am not knowledgeable enough to make technical suggestions so and comments I make will be a gut feeling or a composition comment. So the amount I comment depends on who's work is on the 'latest list' at any one visit.

As we get more 'good' photographers on the forum the more reluctant I am to post my own work and would think this is so for others, we look and learn but feel uncomfortable about joining in. Perhaps a section devoted to those trying out new equipment, having a problem with equipment or just having problems could post their work for help and constructive comment without having to ask for a CC. Unfortunately the ‘very nice’ comment does not help you learn even if it is good for the morale.

Re: Answering posts.

I know what you mean snapper. There is a very fine line between offering critisisum [thats spelt wrong!!!!]and appearing rude.

I find it hard to put into words how I would of made it better and thus delete it and dont say anything.

I know this is not helpful but I dont want to upset anyone or come across as a bumptious prat, who thinks shes knows it all lol.

but personally I would rather someone say 'good shot' than nothing at all.

Re: Answering posts.

Snapper

If I may suggest you keep posting pictures, that is the only way on here for people to help if you need it. Everyone has "bad" pictures but the trend is only to post the good ones. My bet is that nearly 80% of the pictures taken, the photographer when viewing them can find some fault or other, I know I do.

Never feel embarrassed about any photo, circumstances often dictate the picture no matter how good/bad the camera or photographer is.

So Please post and ask for advice, thats what a group like this is there for, to help others.

Bazza
