Re: Great wall of China

Love it Bazza

Hazy..... but I love (correct me if I'm wrong) how the distance is 'squashed' into the shot.

Re: Great wall of China

Phil

We were over 3000ft up in the mountains and the "haze" is actually clouds. As for distance being squashed the wall ran along the mountain ridge so it may well appear to be "squashed" but infact that is exactly the view we had.

This was taken from the cablecar only half way up the mountain

A sheer drop into a fairly shallow valley on the Mongolian side of the wall

Looking down onto the top of one of the watch towers.

We were so high up you really notice how much harder it was to breathe thru lack of air. The tour Guide did say that before she did this trip she did breathing exercises to be able to do the walk along the wall.

Re: Great wall of China

Phil
It was an 8 day trip of a lifetime, saw the terracotta warriors-forbidden city etc etc. would love to go back for a longer period of time.

One of many courtyards inside The forbidden City

hall where they are excavating the warriors, those at the back smashed by a emperor.

Pits about 15/20ft deep and the warriors still to be removed

where the Emperor and wifee had their din dins. Sue and i had a 16 course meal here

Yes the walls are gold leaf

Re: Great wall of China

A farmer digging a well in 1972 discovered the warriors and the Chinese government seized his lands, actually met him. when we went 2 years ago they had to stop uncovering them as they were painted but as soon as they got into the air the paint oxidised and they just turned the colour you see. At that time we went they hadn't found a way to preserve the colours so they were just working on repairing those broken ones. each taking about 9 months to repair.

As well as the full size horses

Repaired and ready for world wide exhibitions each warrior is about 6 ft tall and all have different faces
