Canon 40D rebate and possible End of Life

Buzz on the street is that there will be a rebate (by the end of this week if it hasn't already started) on the 40D. I have no idea on what the amount will be.

This comes as a result of very heavy (as in this is coming from a lot of places, not just one or two) rumour of the 50D being announced on the 26 August (next Tues). Also some places have apparently removed the 40 from their pricelists due to lack of stock (not afaik in the UK they havent)

This is a result of rumours, but keep your eyes peeled until Friday, because sometimes the rumours are true.

Alan.

Re: Canon 40D rebate and possible End of Life

Nice find Alan. The 40D already has some great cashback deals, and with the D300 still selling well (the price has pretty much stayed the same for a while too), so I'm guessing this is true as they need a camera to compete feature-wise with the D300.

It starts today for one Month.

Basically, if you buy a 40D over the next 30 days, Canon will send you a cheque for £60 for your bother

Nice eh

Re: Canon 40D rebate and possible End of Life

Ah I see.

I got £140 cashback on my 40D - If they add the £60 on top it makes it a good buy.

The specs I've seen being touted about for the 50D vary a bit but on the whole I'd say I'd choose it over the 40D but not upgrade from one.

You are right Phil, you would have to be a bit of a muppet to upgrade to a 50D from a 40D (or even from a 10, 20 or 30 really)

Any one with a Canon body in the X0 range looking to upgrade would have to look at the current 5D as a minimum. Prefeably wait until next month for the (loooong awaited) 5D replacement (all be it the 5D2 or 3D or 7D, who knows?)

I have been saving hard and am ready to spend spend spend pending any announcement

I will still use my 30D, will make a great backup body and take on the plane body. I can then give my 300D to my wife (lucky her lol)

Not really - I have a 20D and I am going to be looking at the 50D with interest, I wouldn't say that someone who owns a 3 year old camera knowing they have a limited shutter life would be a muppet for wanting to upgrade and keeping their existing camera as a backup The 40D wasn't enough of a jump but I am waiting to see what the new features on the 50D are before I make a decision.

However I do disagree with your statement that people wishing to upgrade from the x0 range should look at the 5D, IMO they are built for different types of photography. The 5D has a slower frame rate which isn't much use if you want to shoot action for example. The 5D sucessor will bear watching but again I would want to see the spec first.

Re: Canon 40D rebate and possible End of Life

I'd agree with Greyhawk - If I had a 20D (and was concerned about it's shutter count) I'd be looking at the 50D rather than the 40D if it was within my budget.

What I said was I wouldn't be considering a 50D if I owned a 40D.
