Its a nice little camera, and is a bit over looked, but then it has just come out. It will be a good starter if you want to get to know the ropes and isn't really that different to the 400/450D

It's a very good entry level camera, for minimal extra cost I would probably look at the 450D (with the IS kit lens). The 1000D comes in between the 400D and the 450D.

The Canon 1000D replaces the 400D. The 450D is higher up in the range.. so if you can afford it I would be more inclinced to look at that

The 1000D is an entry level SLR designed for new SLR users. It has some excellent features, but personally Id go for the 450D.
