Re: Where is my diopter?

Is it something to do with the small dial beside the viewfinder If the view is blurry you can adjust it with the dial I think.

Re: Where is my diopter?

Normally if is by the view finder, difficult to move and mind you don't poke your eye out whilst trying to do so. Know the range offered on the Nikon is not very wide but think you can buy a different view finder if the standard one is not of a wide enough scale for you.
Kit 1
Pentax K7
Pentax 60-250mm
Sigma 105mm Macro
Pentax 12-24mm
Pentax 50mm 1.4
Sigma 50-500mm (Bigma)
Kit 2
Pentax K20d

Re: Where is my diopter?

to the right of the viewfinder there is what looks like a slider (up/down) with a plus sign at the top. That would be the adjustment. Now their could be 2 ways of setting it up, you would have to check the instruction book as Nikon have used different methods for different cameras. The D70s has a different way to the D200 for example. That is the dioptic adjustment which you set up to suit your particular eyesight.

From memory the D70s uses the first method below

If you autofocus on an object and let the camera get the sharpness then look thru the viewfinder to see if it is in focus, if not then move the slider until it is in focus. That would "tune" the viewfinder to the camera using your strength of eye.

With the D200 it is slightly different , you see the focus area marking lines in the viewfinder and adjust the wheel beside the viewfinder until those lines become sharp.

Other Nikon models might use a different method, should you not be able to focus on the object by either method then Nikon make Dioptic +/- viewing lens which clip over the exisiting viewfinder for those with less good eyesight than the built in range allows for.

Re: Where is my diopter?

Now don't go twiddling with the slider all night, it will still be there in the morning.

Re: Where is my diopter?

I know someone who is frustrated who knows what they are going to get, but can't get their hands on it. Don't forget about setting the slider as mentioned by myself in previous explaination
