As you have asked for help I would come in closer on the head alone like this.

If the picture goes later on its because i have removed it from photobucket.

Re: Head shots...

Hannah

Its just the way I would do the photo, I have sharpened it a wee bit as well. As for the second picture I would do a 2 copies then crop a dogs head on each as above. From there you could do a collage together with other pictures.

Something like this, ok its only a quick effort as you can see by some of the ear tips missing in some of the pictures and not sharpening in some as well. Hopefully it may give you another way of portraying all. Obviously if you did this you would take more time and care in the final result, but as I say its only a rough draft to show what can be achieved, as each picture can be cropped differently.

Re: Head shots...

Can't really C&C, but I think they're beautiful. I like Bazza's crop, but I'd have left a tad more neck just to balance the erect ear. They're really gorgeous dogs.

You may well be correct in what you say, I only posted as a rough guide on how to improve possibly on the pictures. If they were my photos then yes I would give a little more thought as to composition.
It is easier to show what can be done than trying to explain.

Yep, I agree! I think it works better cropped tighter too.

Re: Head shots...

Think you have done a very good job. Agree the first would be improved by being cropped but would not go in as tight as Bazza did, just to where the withers join the neck and about the same amount on the left. Like the two hounds in the second shot and I would leave them as they are apart from getting rid of the dark line across the top. Think both shots could do with a little sharpening, nothing to do with your skill it happens a good deal with digital shots and is easy to fix with PS or similar which I think offer more control than changing the sharpening in camera. Wonder what others think about this? Do you change the camera settings or do the work afterwards?
