My Cat - Few test shots

My 14 year old cat. I thought I'd take some snaps to 'capture' her. Any comments/critique welcome.

Re: My Cat - Few test shots

Considering the harsh light, these are very well exposed Mel Your composition in #3 is also very good - shame its a tad out of focus.

She has a very interesting face - im sure you will get loads of great captures of her!

Thank you for your comments. I find sometimes when fully zoomed it's harder to get a sharp focus, not sure if it's the camera or me. What exposure would you expect in harsh lighting? Dark? I'm pleasently suprised there are no/few purple fringes as thats one of the most common reviewers negative points about this camera.

Thanks again

Re: My Cat - Few test shots

Most cameras have a exposure compensation so you could changing yours just one small step at a time to help with the light, think a white or black subject is the most difficult to get right.

Like the 3rd shot too the claws in 2 look lethal

Gosh, how long is a piece of string LOL Lighting conditions can vary alot depending on how reflective of light your surroundings are - the general rule of thumb is called the "Sunny 16 rule" This means starting off with an aperture setting of F/16 and matching your shutter speed to suit.

In darker situations you will generally need to go as wide as you can afford, bump up the ISO and aim for a shutter speed that will not be to slow (ie less than the length you are shooting at) to prevent any camera shake.

Exposure compensation only comes into its own when the scene you are shooting is over powered by either rich shadows or bright highlights. Its not suitable in the type of conditions that which are being talking about
