Some photos during experimentation! dalmatians - tips wanted

I've added some photos that came out 'ok' but would like some tips on how to improve on what I'm doing.
(I haven't put C&C because I'm not quite good enough yet to request C&C!)

Here goes...
Takara

Eddy (any tips on his eyes? I think it's because they're a bit glaucy)

Takara

I was gutted that they moved to the edge of the camera before the picture was captured but loved their expressions so thought I'd put it up anyway - any tips on how to catch moving objects much appreciated!

Takara again

Rowdy - loved his expression here - think I shall crop this to take out the pipe and T's bum

I think they were simply too far away for me to capture this well - the camera was fully zoomed in but I guess I could've done with being closer. Any tips on how to 'shop it to make them more clear?

Eddy

Takara

Rowdy

The problem I have is they are light coloured dogs (the dallies in particular pose a problem) and it was a bright day. I had the WB set to daylight but not sure how else to capture them without them glowing!

Nice photo's!

I'm no expert but I think the first 3 shot needed a little more light and maybe as Takara & Eddy are light coloured dogs have them on a darker background so they stand out more!

The water/action shots are good, especially like the 3rd water shot!

I love the one of Takara standing on the wall but on that pic I think you get distracted by the curve of the wall that is near her mouth.

I think they are good pictures just be aware of things in the shot that could lead the eye away from the subject!

The outdoor ones work much better - because the backgrounds are nicer and compliment the subjects

Take a look at Lesson 1 in the Monthly Challenges section, the bit about where the pic is taken really can make a difference

Lottie, this months lesson is all about composition - iv included the link if you want to give it a go http://www.yophotographer.com/page.php?t=3932

For the cameras limitations these are good efforts (I noticed you had complained about the maximum zoom on your camera - whats wrong with your feet ) The headshot ones are lovley.

The shot of Rowdy is lovley but be careful when you crop as you may loose the good composition you have got

Just to add, can you number your posts its hard to comment on particular ones when you have to keep counting down from the top! LOL

When you take pictures of Dogs, try to get down to their level, it will help a lot with the end result.

Re: Some photos during experimentation! dalmatians - tips wanted

Thanks guys!

Kanikula - will remember to number the photos in future! I actually had Eddy on the lead pulling me around whilst trying to take the photos so my movement was more limited than usual anyway and when those two are running around like maniacs - you don't wanna get too close!!

I'll take a look at the link, thanks

Dawn - thanks for the tip... every now and again I go to the effort of getting down to their level but not in the park because a dalmatian's rock hard head hitting yours at 20mph isn't good!! Will take it on board though and may invest in a helmet (I am kidding about the helmet, of course)

No it's not! I was quite impressed there was no shake on it actually as was having to manage with only one hand.

Eddy was just peeved because they were having all the fun and he can't go offlead there because the last two times he has I've ended up chasing after him when he wouldn't come back! He's a bit deaf and there's no gate before the main road so we don't risk it.

Re: Some photos during experimentation! dalmatians - tips wanted

Think you have made very good use of your compact, all the outside shots are well exposed but those taken inside are very noisy, would guess because of the high film speed, this is because of low light and the camera may have a way of avoiding this but I don't know the camera so I can't help.

Agree with taking dogs at their level unless you are looking for a special effect, think I like the two dogs in the water centre screen best, but also like the Dally head shot and the profile shot of the tan dog. Must say I also think the tan dog wet and looking up has a lot to recommend it if you can tidy up the background a bit, the ground is great but the feet and the other dog are distracting.
