Re: Fly

For me there are too many leaves and on this screen I can hardly see the fly, not that I'm a good critique!

Re: Fly

I have to agree with perrodeagua, there's too much leaf and not enough fly, maybe a closer crop would be better

Re: Fly

If it wasnt for your DoF (very nice BTW) the fly would have been easily lost in the shot. As the others have pointed out , try going in a little tighter

Really?

Ok...maybe I shouldn't have called the image "FLY!"
It's slightly misleading as it gives you a pre-conceived idea as to what you are going to see...especially with some of the other fantastic insect macro shots on here

What if I called it " Hedge " ?
or
" Life in a bush " ?

Would that help?

The reason the crop isn't any tighter, is because I wanted to show the depth of field between the foreground and background leaves, but more importantly, I also wanted to illustrate that even though you're looking at a photograph of a tiny few inches of hedge, the scale of the fly shows you, that to the insect, that few inches is in fact a vast labyrinth of branches and leaves.

It's interesting that you all focused solely on the fly, and wanted it bigger, or clearer with less leaves, rather than look at the image as a whole.
Is that because the image was called " FLY " I wonder?

Thanks for the C&C guys. I'll take your comments on board, and I'll also choose my image titles more carefully next time.

Re: Fly

Yeah it is because it was called "Fly" so I was trying to find the fly rather than looking at the whole picture, he, he!

That's a beautiful shot of a hedge with a fly on it with great DOF!!!!!

Re: Fly

Nice shot MD

Agree with the others that there's too much going on, making it hard to draw enough attention on the fly. Perhaps a stronger and ligher boken on the bacground leaves would have helped?
