Bijou (Quaker Parakeet) eating breakfast with a spoon

Well every morning when I do his food, he's out of the cage, supervising , firstly I put yesterdays left over seed in a dish, so I can throw it out for the wild birds, and Bijou always has to have a last minute rumage around in it for any missed goodies, but this morning was different, he'd had a wonder around the work top first and found a teaspoon, and decided to try and have breakfast like we do

The pictures arnt' great, but I just had to share

I'm not 100% sure of the difference between Parrots and Parakeets, but I think it's mainly down to size, and maybe one or two other things that I'm not too sure on, but he's the first Parakeet I've owned, unless you count a Budgie

Yes he does talk, he never stops, he goes on, and on and on, all day it's quite funny what he says as well, he's always telling Jack to stop it, or get down, or just calling him, the other morning, he was erm, making out with his mirror , and when he stopped he said 'thank you' which I found very funny, he also laughs as well, I can't remember all he says, but he never stops

I wouldn't be without him for the world

Re: Bijou (Quaker Parakeet) eating breakfast with a spoon

Parakeets are actually parrots

Budgies (parakeets), Quaker parakeets, and Lineolated Parakeets are all parrots.

Some people underestimate parakeets, thinking they are less-intelligent, etc. but they are actually parrots and people don't know what they are missing.

There is no difference between parakeets or parrots. In fact, the reason some birds are even called parakeets it because back when aviculture was new, the U.S. and it's citizens called all parrots "parakeets". Who knows why.

A parakeet is a term for any one of a large number of unrelated small to medium sized parrot species
