KK - How do I go about changing skin tone in black and white? I'm very new to all this, and don't normally do b/w - I know very very little about photoshop, so it's all I could do just to do what I did! *rofl* Any advice always appreciated, portrait photography is something that completely throws me!

Laura, when converting into BW with people - i like to keep the whole image in BW. On th eother hand, when it somes to selective coluring, im not a fan of the skin being grey and everything else colour, it makes the person look........well.....um..........dead!

To get good BW conversion in photshop, use image>adjustments>black and white.

In this table you can personalise the tones, such as increasing the darkness/brightness of the skin. Make sure you have a good amount of highlights, midtones and shadows. This will help create depth, shape and life to the face.

erm... following the tutorial i found for recolouring... i just go to image>adjustments>desturate :/
