What can you do to a Raw file?

What can you do to a RAW file that you can't to a Jpeg?

I haven't tried shooting in RAW yet, just wondered what can you manipulate , that you can't with a Jpeg?

A JPEG is your FINAL image and little pp, such as contrast, colour, sharpening, WB ect can be done on it. However a RAW file is NOT your FINAL image. It can be adjusted hugley in the likes of "lightroom". As well as the above, exposure can be changed, vibrancy and clarity, shadows and highlights ect ect also can be adjusted. A RAW stores the INFORMATION of the image for later pp a JPEG does not.

You have done nothing wrong

Think in terms of a pizza. A JPEG will make and finish the pizza for you, you will have to accept it wether your happy with the toppings or not. a RAW however will put the basics together but will let you add or take away ingrediants soi ts to your liking

Re: What can you do to a Raw file?

Why is that in a quote box? (Sorry, being a bit dim today ) And why does it say ...'You have done nothing wrong' in the middle of it?

Re: What can you do to a Raw file?

My ps7 does not allow me to adjust a RAW file so i can only adjust it in picassa so that why i only shoot in jpeg.

As said I would rather be taking the finished pic straight out of the camera as I feel it is more satisfying.

BUT also as said before 'you should do what you want'

and if its a good pic its a good pic. end of.

Re: What can you do to a Raw file?

Just one thing to add to KKs post - usually these days the pizza made by the camera is damn nice hence the 'need' for shooting in RAW is mainly for those who want to be able to control a lot more of the image after it's taken. If you are usually pretty happy with the results straight out of your camera, jpeg is a great option

Re: What can you do to a Raw file?

If i was doing a wedding, or something of equal importance... I'd consider doing the entire thing in raw...

Hey jols you just need the plugin There are several updates on the download page. However, it looks like you will need to use a version no higher than 4.0 to use with ps7. Please do read all the instructions as I am not 100% on that.

Adobe RAW plugin

Good luck to you,
