Ospreys in the wild today

I did say don't build your hopes up. I went just to see them but figured I'd at least take some pictures even though I don't have a suitable lens.

The nest is quite far away from the hide on the other bank so despite have a great view with their telescopes you would need a good long lens.



Anyway here they are albeit very fuzzy. You can see the female coming in to land then in the last few pics when she's on the nest you can just make out the male flying away. The thingymebob in the tree is a live camera and microphone looking down onto the nest. You can watch this online (during the day obviously) here.

Considering how far away they are, these aren't bad,I would be dead pleased with these, not many people get to see these birds, let alone take pics of them.

What lens are you using on these shots?

We are lucky here for birds of prey and these ones return each year to the same nest.

I've not watched it online yet so I'm not sure if it's a still pic that refreshes or if it's like the one they have at the loch. The one at the loch is a pin sharp huge LCD screen with sound that has live realtime footage.

It's my old 75-300mm canon lens off my film slr. These are cropped as they were too small in the frame to see.

Could you hire a lens? I don't know how much it would cost, I just thought it might be worth it.

That was mentioned today. Think I'd need a big one though.

I suppose it would have to be a big lens, would that make it more expensive to hire??

Just scared myself half to death. I'd clicked on that webcam link earlier to check it was the right one. When i saw it was just a black rectangle I switched back to YOP on another tab without closing it.

Anyway, although it's dark it must still be picking up sound. All of a sudden all hell broke loose with sounded like geese and my speakers were on full blast.
