Tripods!! Doing my head in!

Right the tripod I ordered is here, it is fine and seems really stable etc.

I am trying to get used it, but am getting peed off as I am used to just moving about with my camera, and being able to change position quickly. Is this normal? Or am I just impatient?

Re: Tripods!! Doing my head in!

If your tripod srews into your camera in more Than likely has a 3/8" screw. the More expensive tripods have a 1/4" screw to which you can fit a head to depending on what you want to do, and usually the tripod heads have a quick release system.

For example the Manfrotto tripod I have is the 055XPROB with the 322RC2 head and quick release plate which fits to the camera. The rig retails on ebay from shop at just under £230. Extra release plates are around £10.

Re: Tripods!! Doing my head in!

Ok why did I choose that head for the tripod ? well although on the pricey side it has a pistol grip action with tension control and bubble level as well as a bubble level on the tripod. The huge advantage of that head is its so easy to get the camera pointing at what you want to photograph and locking it off without having to turn knobs which usually results in the camera moving from the object.

The whole setup will support around 12/13 lb of camera/lens .

To put this into perspective a Nikon200 with a 70-300mm vr lens with batts is just over 3 lb

ok why have such a heavy duty rig? well one of the unique features of this tripod is it can be spread out so the camera is virtually at ground level, so do most you might say, ah but this centre pole has a quick action side extension movement without dis-assembly. Hence it will easily support the camera/lens in this position without toppling over.

One thing having used it is that it just WONT move in a heavy wind, it is rock solid.
