First shot with new lens

This is the first shot taken with my new Sony 500mm F8 Reflex lens. I managed to get a few minutes with it this morning before I had to leave for work

I've never used a fixed prime lens before, so I've got a lot of learning to do

Re: First shot with new lens

Yeah great 1st shot MD! Would be interesting to see you take a few shots in the same direction, one with your widest say at 18mm and then another at 500mm to see how much telephoto power you have

Look forward to seeing more!

Re: First shot with new lens

Thanks DJ.

More about the lens...
Sony 500mm F8 Reflex:
"The world’s only super telephoto reflex lens with auto-focus capability. Its reflex design gives this amazing super telephoto lens a short barrel and compact, lightweight design, ideal for field work on wilderness and nature assignments -- and its auto-focus capability makes it unique among reflex lenses of this class. Mounted on the Sony ® a (alpha) DSLR-A700 camera, this lens provides a 750mm focal length (35mm equivalent) -- and takes advantage of Sony’s in-camera Super SteadyShot® image stabilization system to reduce blur by compensating for shaky hands.

Here are a few more shots taken this morning. They're not the best shots I've ever taken, but it was the first time using the lens, and I literally had about 5 mins before I had to leave for work. I've not long finished work ( again ) so I haven't had another chance to play around with it yet. I think I'm off this weekend, so if we get some decent weather I'll be out and about shooting everything that moves

Re: First shot with new lens

Like the last one MD! Are you shooting them in RAW or jpg?

Hope to see more when you take them - I'd be tempted to phone in sick

Re: First shot with new lens

Thanks Azz. I was just getting the hang of the lens by the last shot,

I'm shooting in Raw, I always shoot in Raw, but post in jpg. I've tried converting them a slightly different way to the way I normally do it, but I seem to be losing a lot of quality from the original Raw and Tiff files.

Item number 137 on the to-do list for tomorrow

Re: First shot with new lens

Forgot to mention, that all these birds were in my neighbours back garden at a distance of around 50 - 60 feet from my position. All shot through my bedroom window.
( well...it's freezing at that time in the morning )

Re: First shot with new lens

They are great

What do you use to edit the raw files? Wonder if I could have a look at the last file in Raw format? Not sure if my software will open it tho - just interested to see what it's like

Re: First shot with new lens

Great examples and I look forward to seeing what you do with this lens.

The first picture made me giggle. The bird in the background looks like he's had enough of life and just thrown himself off the fence.
