Lunch time visiter

While Mom and I ate a burger for our lunch by the lake, I looked to our side and saw this watching us...it went into the tree stump and disappeared completely...no way am I going to walk over to that stump and poke around...just glad it went away! Shirley

Re: Lunch time visiter

Awww cool. I am pretty sure it's a rat snake, so totally harmless, great captures. I have a whole new appreciation of snakes since moving here, I've become quite a fan

Re: Lunch time visiter

Very much looks like a ratsnake. Not harmless, they can bite, and it can be a bit painful...the beggars don't have the wit to let go once they've bitten you and they have a fair crack at trying to swallow you, but there is no venom.

Re: Lunch time visiter

Guess I should find more snakes as I got so many comments on this one! Just kidding...I was going to guess this to be a Corn Snake, just because when ever I asked some one that would know I was always told it was that one..
Did have one as long as this big much thicker body up in Michigan..several of us saw it come across our lawn and go under the porch...same color and marking but so much thicker...some days later it showed up in the barn, on the roof and hanging down in the middle of a doorway as my DIL came through with the grain bucket for the horses..she screamed and her Hubby attacked the snake in a split second, killed it...was told it was a Corn Snake by the snake expert at MSU...it was so thick because it had a bunch of babies! Whether eggs or live I am not sure but for the rest of the summer baby snakes showed up every where and sure to get a scream from us ladies..lift a plant pot and saw many...many writhing and getting knotted up in a mass...I left them alone and skeddaled away! Found many when mowing the grass...all chopped up on the next round...thought you might like my snake stories...and I do have a photo of one of Florida's most poisonness snakes that my GGD saw on our car port here..she was 3 yrs old and came running to tell us about it..we left it alone and never saw it again...Shirley
