One of the many things I like about the Sony A57 is that it has an EVF, not optical, so you're only ever looking at a digital representation of the sun, never actually focusing it's terawatts of energy into your eyeball. Which is a good thing in general

Even then I'd only take a shot like that in the morning or evening when the optical lens of the Earth is diffusing the energy through a lot of atmosphere, and as a happy bonus giving the light a lovely colour. That way although the sensor is not damaged overly by the light, the heat is reduced to the point it doesn't weld the shutter to the sD card
