Twilight Help

Last night, the light had gone but it was by no means dark, I tried to take some pics of my neighbours trees, just to capture the autumn leaves, I tried different settings, but if the light was right the pic was very blurred, and if the pics was not too blurred it was very dark, any ideas, or is it just a no no at that time of night, I've added a couple of pics just to show you what I mean.

The worse, although the light is about right, maybe a little bright.

Re: Twilight Help

Do you have the EXIF data you can post? That way we can compare the settings and see where they differed

Re: Twilight Help

Right - well I can't tell what the ISO was (as it is on Auto) but you can immediately see that the shutter speed is a lot slower for the top picture. This means that the shutter was open for a much longer time to allow more light to get in. Did you notice a difference in the amount of time the camera took to take the picture? With a shutter speed that slow, most people could never hand hold a shot and have it come out crisp. If you are using those sorts of shutter speed then ideally you would need a tripod

Re: Twilight Help

Thanks Greyhawk, I know that the camera seemed to take a while to catch up and focus,it seemed to drag the scene across the view finder thing, if you know what I mean, and yes there were times when I pressed the button and it seemed ages untill the pic was taken, but I really couldn't say which pics it was for, and sometimes the flash went off and sometimes it didn't, but thank you so much for your advice, looks like I need to invest in a tripod

Re: Twilight Help

Or for the time being you could just take a chair out, our rest the camera on anything stable and try the settings as per the first shot again You just have to make sure the camera doesn't move.

Re: Twilight Help

I agree with greyhawk, it's the shutter speed that's the problem. The longer the shutter is open, the more camera shake you're likely to experience.

Re: Twilight Help

I got myself a tripod, only a cheepo from Tesco's, took the advise that had been given on here, played about a bit and came up with this, it was probably a little bit darker than when I took the first 2, but not a lot, I'm pretty pleased with how it's turned out, what do you think?
