Just for fun 'cos the thread seems slow...my father took this photo in 1949 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with a 2-1/4" x 3-1/4" sheet film camera that he and a friend made, developed the film, printed the original, and--some 50 years later--my mother scanned it and emailed it to me. Times do change. And so do people (me!).

But when I saw "childhood", this was what I thought of.

My dad must have taken 10,000 pictures of his kids' 'childhood', most on 35mm slides (plus hundreds of hours on a 16mm Bolex movie camera) and now he and my mother are painstakingly converting them all to digital images. He still has all his cameras, dating back to the 30s, perhaps 20 of them, including some which friends have left him over the years, and he still has his darkroom and occasionally goes out and prints photos.

He's 85 later this year--and he's about to buy his first Nikon Digital SLR, though it's probably his fourth Nikon over the years. He's thinking D80 (says there's going to be an X?) or D300 (I think it is) as I decide which of the lower end--D40X or D80--to get on our trip to the States in March.

So here's to 'childhood'--and all those parents who catalogue it so well!
