East Wretham Heath

Last night was so nice we went for a stroll at East Wretham Heath, run by The Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The reserve lies at the heart of Breckland - a unique area containing many heaths and wetlands of great importance for wildlife.

6) This Langmere one of three groundwater filling Meres on the reserve. They should be at their fullest in early summer?

7) The sheep are moved about the reserve to maintain it as it should be.

If you have got this far, then thanks for taking the time to look.

Re: East Wretham Heath

My kind of reserve Richard, ive been to nearby Weeting Heath and Wayland wood, but never visited this site. Norfolk has so much to offer a Natural history enthusiast.

Thanks Mossy. Wayland Wood is also very close to me. Weeting is a little further and I have to confess I've not been. I think most people go to see the Stone Curlews.

East Wretham Heath can be incorporated into a lovely walk upto the Devils Punchbowl taking in a lot of Thetford Forest.

Re: East Wretham Heath

What a great place to visit Richard, I love Norfolk heathlands, such peaceful places, well except for the military range ones

Re: East Wretham Heath

We have miliary ranges in the area, but the gunfire is seldom heard and it is quiet where we are. They do however provide a haven for wildlife.
