My D800 is Alive!!

I picked that bad boy up this morning from Camera World in downtown Portland, OR. I was lucky to get the D800 as quick as I did because I waited 3 months with no success before canceling that original pre-order. Holy cow this rig is heavy with my Nikkor 24-70mm F/2.8 FX aboard. Feels good. I'll tell you I'm glad I use Black Rapid's R7 strap! The shutter sounds so very different, more substantial I would say than any other camera I've owned. It's rugged and fits just right in my large hands. It took me an hour to work through the setup menus. I was glad I downloaded a cheat sheet for nature/landscape photographers. I made some minor tweaks but it was ready to shoot shortly thereafter. The RAW file size is just over 39 Megabytes. My 20"x30" saved jpgs run 4-6 Meg. I'll be putting it through its paces as we have a week's worth of hot, sunny weather predicted.

Nothing quite like having a new Toy Bob and you've had to be patient too which makes it all the more special. I'm sure you'll get used to the size in no time.

My best FX lens in the Nikkor 24-70mm F/2.8. I used it exclusively today on my landscape shots. It's a beast & razor sharp.
