Buzzards in the garden

One of the buzzards that hangs about in the wooded area at the end of the garden. Took me by surprise but I just caught it.

Plus a couple enjoying some acrobatics - unfortunately the rooks were keeping them too far from me.

Re: Buzzards in the garden

Oh lovely! Well done! Hoping I can get to see some in the next couple of weeks, they're not at all common here.

Re: Buzzards in the garden

Love them Phil, the 1st image especially. I spent some of last week watching the Buzzards from the cottage over the Dee valley, much too high up to get any decent detailed photos though.....

Re: Buzzards in the garden

We also have several around here, I don't think one realises just how big these birds are until you get up close to them and that is no mean feat, they have such fantastic eyesight. Watching them dive onto prey from a height is a privilage I have witnessed several times and something not to be missed. We also have sparrow hawks flash through out little orchard, and unfortunately birds on the feeders sometimes don't get out of the way in time. Still that nature I suppose but it is upsetting to see.

Have to say Phil your picture especially no 1 is far far better than I have managed so far. Maybe if I dressed up as a female Buzzard that would work, What do you think???

Re: Buzzards in the garden

Nice shots Bazza, what's the bottom bird? Looks like a Saker falcon?

Re: Buzzards in the garden

I find it interesting that I belong to two different foreign forums and yet both have birding in common. The other forum, by the way, is Canadian. I'm down to just one American forum of excellent photographers. We hide from the normally obnoxious ones.

You are such a talented bird photographer Phil, quite adept at capturing birds in flight and perched somewhere.

Re: Buzzards in the garden

Nice to see Phil and even nice to capture them on camera...

We get lots of them around here sitting on fence posts early in the morning...when there is not enough light to get decent pictures of them..

But I did get this one in Scotland on one of my trips..which I was pleased with as they normally fly off when the camera comes out...

Re: Buzzards in the garden

I am finding it interesting that we have different names for so many birds...these are not what I call buzzards...we have two kinds of buzzards in our skies...the red headed turkey buzzard and the slightly smaller black buzzard...some call ours Vultures. Shirley
