Heron, Chaffinch & Starling

I was not planning on taking pics today but when I looked out of my window I saw a Heron in the marsh, next to the field from my backdoor. It was about 100 metres away, I think, but I decided to get out my camera anyway and take some pics of it. I used my 400mm f5.6 L plus teleconverter but it still was to far away, I also had problems focusing on the bird using live view on the 40d, and I soon realised that it was heat haze coming from my radiator that was causing the problems with focusing, so, I had to hand hold the camera and hang out the window to avoid the heat haze coming from the radiator even though it was switched off. After getting lots of pics of it in the marsh, I was then hoping for it to fly off and get a BIF shot, which I did eventually after a while. I got some pics of a starling and a chaffinch while waiting on the Heron taking off. I also shot some video of the Heron as well with my Canon xm2, which I might post this later.

This one of the Chaffinch is a 75% crop as it was quite far away.
