Predator and Prey

Sometimes nature can be cruel, especially if you have been feeding the birds in the garden.

Re: Predator and Prey

Such is life I guess.

My garden birds get taken by sparrow hawks but I just work on the basis that the numbers killed are less than the numbers that benefit from a ready food source when times are hard. That said - birds of prey need a meal too.

I'll also do my bit to ensure the feeders aren't placed anywhere that provides cover for cats, are too high for acrobatic jumps and have chicken wire umbrellas underneath to prevent climbing but cats being cats - soon find neighbour's feeders that provide easy pickings.

Re: Predator and Prey

Good capture Fogey, one of our young doves fell prey this week, there were just a pile of feathers and the odd bone left on the lawn

Re: Predator and Prey

Nice shots. I also feed in winter and agree many more survive as a result even if Mr Sparrowhawk pays a visit to the food store. Hate to think what we have spent the last two winters.
