A few shots from my bike ride

My mode of transport

Greylags

Swan feeding

Egyptian Goose?

Taken at range so needed to use digital zoom as well, not the best results, any tips please.

Differing textures

I found this on a farm building years ago and it still amuses me.

Re: A few shots from my bike ride

The sign is brilliant and i really like the Greylags

As far as my knowledge extends is that when you use a digital zoom it cuts down the number of pixels used lending to a poor quality, hope this helps

Re: A few shots from my bike ride

Egyptian Goose about 1 mile from home in South Norfolk. Seen a few like it over the last few years. Doesn't look 100% Egyptian to me, do you think it is a cross of some sort or just a variant. I would be interested to get the views of some of you experienced birders.

Kay and Ken, I've seen the sign countless times over the last 20 years and it still amuses me when I see it again.

Any more tips re the poorer quality when neeeding to use the digital zoom when the subject is too far away to capture normally. Remember I have a bridge camera and not a DSLR.

Re: A few shots from my bike ride

avoid using digital zoom at all cost its not actaully zooming any closer it just crops the image and loses mass amounts of quality

Re: A few shots from my bike ride

You don't say how many pixels you are shooting at, Richard.

I used to own a bridge camera and what I did for distance shots was to set the ISO to the camera's lowest setting, set for aperture priority, sit the camera on a tripod, take my shot at 12 mgp and crop post processing.

I think that is the best advice I can give. I never used digital zooming.

Edited to say: I always zoomed with my feet.

Re: A few shots from my bike ride

Owen and Fogey many thanks for the advice. If I'd had my tripod with me I'd have put 1.7X teleconverter lense on. Bit limited on the bike.

Laura I happened to see these on the side of the road as we went out, they were still there on the way back.

Re: A few shots from my bike ride

Lovely geese! One thing I enjoy at this group is that you show me birds I will never see and I find them very interesting. Not just birds but all kinds of nature sights that are different from what I find here. Thank you all for letting me hang around...I know I am not a good photographer and have just a P&S camera but I try my best...about zooming with your feet..afraid that is not possible these days as my bones don't allow me to walk very much and then with pain that pills can't help..SHirley
