3-D?

I was looking at Bob's excellent shot of a tiger stepping out of the frame and was reminded of something similar that I did.

C&C welcome.

Would you believe it, I can't remember the details.

It has something to do with strokes to create the frame, blending options to get the contours and then copying the entire content onto a transparent canvas.

A bit complicated - I will have a play and get back to you, if that's all right

Re: 3-D?

Ok. This is how it's done. This is for Photoshop.

Call up the image and create a new layer. Open a new, transparent canvas the same size as the photograph.

Return to the photograph and rename the background layer layer 0 and the copy layer layer 1.

Turn off layer 1. Using the square marquee tool mark out on layer 0 the area you want for the frame. invert the selection and press the delete key. Using the magic eraser tool erase the black area.

Return to the marquee tool and invert the selection.
Go to Edit> Stroke.
Select 150 px width, colour white.
Location: Inside.
Mode: lighten.
Opacity 50%

Now right click on the layer in the layers tab and select Blending Options.

Select Bevel and Emboss.
The settings should be:
Inner Bevel
Chisel Hard
Depth 500%
Direction Up
Size 85 pixels
Soften 0 pixels
Leave the shading to default
Highlight mode: Screen
Opacity 75%.

Select layer 0 and copy and paste into the blank canvas.
Repeat for Layer 1.

Then it is just a case of selecting the relevant bits of the image you need to delete and deleting them.

Make sure the layer with the frame is on top, and once satisfied, flatten the image.
