Professional portrait photographers

I think they would be called portrait photographers anyway.

I found an advert,

consultation and a glass of fizz (bucks fizz if your lucky, I'll bet)
nail file and polish (worth £15 in salon but pretty easy to do yourself, I can see why its offered though as you'd be sitting a while..)
professional make up artistry
hair styling (NOT professional and I really would bet money on that)
4-5 outfit changes (bring your own clothes)
A private viewing session (what is this? is this when you go back to pick up prints? )
mini prints of your entire shoot (doesnt say how many, what size, edited or not..Is this really what it says on the tin?)
one 24x16 canvas print
ten 7x5's in a branded album
expert advice and direction (on what?) and this comes before it tells you you get to wear a corset for free!
photos will be re-touched
a cd with all your own copyright free images re-touched in sepia, b&w, colour, print as many as you like.

What do you guys think of this?

and have a go at guessing the price.

then I found this one
Indoor or outdoor photography

£60 per hour

£160 half a day (4 hours)

£240 full day ( 8 hours)

Studio photography

£90 per hour

£220 half a day (4 hours)

£350 full day (8 hours)

Half day and full day photography include 2 and 4 hours of basic post-processing (retouching) service in price.

Additional or advanced post-processing (retouching) is charged £40 per hour.

that sounds a bit more normal and he actually has some photos on the site but I'm not sure if I like them/the style of them.

Re: Professional portrait photographers

I don't get why it's robbery...? Why does boudoir work class as robbery? Sorry if I'm being thick... but actually, this sort of thing is an area I was very interested in going into one day if I get good enough at it... and I have some friends who are make up artists and we were discussing perhaps doing it together... so it's not necessarily untrue!

At what was described for that amount of money?
Not saying the theme itself is robbery but for that amount of money, having been in part of the industry mentioned in their service, no chance! How is the pricing broken down?

Re: Professional portrait photographers

Partly robbery cos they make you hire the corset from them on top of the session costs...

Re: Professional portrait photographers

Well... I'll never agree... when you take into account costs that they have to pay, and time for a professional service/artwork/skilled worker (whatever ) - then you'll see that actually they don't charge much at all - I think *maybe* €1250 is a bit steep - but I'd have to see that particular photographer's work for myself. In the end, no one is obliged to go to them and if they can afford it, and like what is on offer, then they can!

There are loads more... but I think they sum it up pretty well!

Re: Professional portrait photographers

Sorry but I have to say that if people pay £1250 for the service then it is worth it.

Without knowing lots of other information it is difficult to pass judgement as there are many factors that are not known.

Location; central London? or backstreets of Glasgow?

Staff; Owner only or a staff of 5 looking after your needs?

Not only that but the original thread does make some judgements without any evidence (bucks fizz not champagne, not a professional hairdresser.). Can this be proved and not just insinuated.

Why as a nationality, do we have to always try to decry or belittle a person trying to make a living and calling them charlatans without conclusive evidence

well, I have been self employed and part of that is, you work. I'm not asking for articles explaining how much work you do. If your thinking of doing this as a business you must know exactly how you break the costs down and how they can charge so much compared to a studio photographer with his own studio, in thesame town, plus add hire charges etc. plus they already have another business which covers the rent etc through selling corsets...
