Florida Sandhill Cranes

This pair is looking over the park for a nesting site. The lake is so low I am afraid they will choose a spot near the current water's edge and a big rain will raise the level and again flood out the nests. That happened last year. Two pair nest in the park..I was there yesterday and one pair came right up to 5 feet of my car...Usually they are very quick to fly away from people but seems right now they are acting tamer.
And I found a setting that has been changed, I didn't do it but now I set it back where it was and am hoping that fixing the trouble with my posting..Shirley

Re: Florida Sandhill Cranes

You would think as its breeding season for them they would be more on edge. Hope they find a place to nest soon and not a place that might get flooded....

I don't know anything about birds, but they look nice and you have caught them well.

Re: Florida Sandhill Cranes

Ive seen captive birds Shirley, but it must be great to see them in the wild, we only have a few common cranes in the UK and i always enjoy seeing them.

Re: Florida Sandhill Cranes

Thanks to all of you for the nice comments...I really like the crane family and glad I get to see them. I follow several daily updates on the Whooping Cranes. These Florida Sandies are a threatened specie, about 5000 of them but other Sandhills are plentiful...the Greater Sandhill are almost a million birds and are hunted in some states. I could not enjoy eating such beautiful birds...seldom eat chicken either! Shirley
