Re: Moon shooting??????

Hi Cliff, I used a 300mm and stacked a 1.4x & 2x converter to make ~900mm on a 1.3 crop, this was the result: HERE, so I would think on the 500D you would get about 2/3 of this image.

Mark (aka Lostnspace) should be able to advise about telescopes and adaptors.

Re: Moon shooting??????

I use one of these. Ok its nowhere near as expensive as a proper sky watching telescope but I had to ask myself if I really needed to spend £thousands to do serious astronomical photography.

to get something like this

Taken at 2600mm , had 2 X TC fitted to lens

it depends on how close you want to get. These photos havn't been "blown up" but actual size taken, reduced to go on here.

Taking a picture of the moon this close isn't easy, you would be suprised how fast the moon crosses the sky, and I had to guess the moons path in advance. Then getting the focus right in a very little time frame as well as camera shake. The slightest movement (even shutter slap) can blur the picture working at this magnification.

Did a little editing to clear up the picture as well.

Impossible to do without a really sturdy tripod.
