Alligators in Florida

This is not a very big gator...maybe 4 foot..but it is a big turtle..I often see them near each other and yet gators do eat turtles and turtles do eat small gators...

This is a big gator, napping...they have little to fear from predators...nothing tackles a big gator except man...this is a protected National Wildlife Refuge. I like to see gators...they are changed little since dinosaurs roamed earth as are the cranes that I also like a lot..Shirley

I love looking at your pictures. Wildlife we never get to see. How far away are you from them?

Re: Alligators in Florida

No gator is going to eat me! I stay inside my car or right close to the open door...These are wild ones, no fences to hold them...the closest to my home that I have seen gators is about 5 miles...the little park I often refer to..The biggest one I have seen is about 14 foot, at the Suwannee NWR and I haven't seen him for a year and a half, the last time I got a photo of him it showed he was missing his left front foot. Only another gator could have done that...
I saw a TV program on salt water crocs last night that gave some interesting info on these critters...they move from sun bathing to under water to regulate their body temperature and can stay under over a hour.. if they are not warm they do not eat and go all winter without eating...even when warm they are not big feeders, hunting for dinner about once a week. They cannot chew, just grab and swallow! Tossing their heads to break off chunks, or rolling in the water to twist off chunks.
Thanks for showing your interest in my photos..Shirley
