Broken Britain

Sadly missed, i had an affection for Woolies that i will never feel for the modern supermarkets. When this one closed down in a local town center, many other long established businesses, soon followed. And it became almost a ghost town.

This once thriving fishing port, is but a pale shadow of its former self, destroyed by European policy's, the knock on effect to the local economy is devastating.

Shipbuilding on the river now long forgotten, many of the cranes here were sold for scrap. All the skills once used here likewise wasted.

This is the only bonus i would like to offer those who throw us to the dogs.

Re: Broken Britain

Some poignant images there showing the decline of this nation from a great manufacturing nation down to a nation ruled by the greed of the financial institutions and sold down the river by generations of lying, cheating politicians.

Bitter, moi.

Re: Broken Britain

Sadly regarding the closed down shops, its the same up and down the country, many many businesses going bankrupt and shops left empty, Hemel is the same. Internet shopping adding the final nail in many businesses coffins.
Sadly with most things, its move with the times or get left behind, ship building, fishing, collieries all fallen by the wayside now. So as Steve said, very poignant images you have there Brian......

Re: Broken Britain

Very interesting shots there. I miss Woolies too - but then, we never had them in Ireland anyway, so I guess I wouldn't have much chance to miss them in any real sense, though they were a large part of my growing up.
