Jay

He`s getting closer. Landing on the feeders again. Used the clone tool to get rid of the feeders this time. Not something i usually use so excuse me if it looks a bit rushed But looked ugly leaving them in......

Well the more i look at the above image the less i like it, down to my processing of the image more than anything else.

Here was another one as he went to ground

Re: Return of the Jay

They really are such a pretty bird I think I might have left the feeders in, or taken more time over the cloning though, as it's made is beak look very smudged/blurry.

Re: Return of the Jay

Thanks Ken, Laura and Mary.......

Laura & Mary, i agree with you both 110%, especially about parts of it being smudgy What i get for rushing the image too when cloning The way i have got my feeders set up at the moment around the garden, the position he was in, there was a feeder in the way, and when i moved the kitchen window frame. so i could not win.....I did not want to risk going outside as he would of left straight away too.......
I`ll post up the slightly cropped image. The ghosting on the bottom left in another feeder.

The Jay had landed on my modified feeder station, it consists of 3 feeder poles with extensions so stands around 10 feet high and has 15 feeders on it in total, then i have 4 tube feeders in the neighbors trees that overhang our garden, 5 larger tube feeders on another pole, two nyjer feeders and 2 trays for Robins and tits. And then a wooden table and a bird hotel

Lostnspace, would you mind showing your feeders that you have constructed? I am trying to imagine what they look like.

Re: Return of the Jay

I like them Mark what a beautiful bird I have never seen one myself, I have been at work all weekend and I am looking forward to having a little walk up to where I have set some feeders as I have no garden. I was there on Friday (no camera) just seeing what its attracting and I have noticed Blue Tits, Bullfinch, Long-tailed tit, Great Tit & a couple I'm not sure of yet as I have just started to identify birds..

Re: Return of the Jay

I used to swatch a Jay at a feeding station cramming peanuts into its mouth to take away and hide, a bird ive yet to photograph.

I will run you off a photo of it, although it is really nothing spectacular, it does look a little messy but it was erected not as a platform so i could take photographs, but just a platform for more birds to feed off. Over last summer we bought a cheap plastic cover greenhouse, and as i was not going to be using it over the Winter decided to use part of the frame with the intention of connecting 3 of my pole feeders together. But the frame of the greenhouse and the poles for the feeders were different sizes, i ended up slotting 3 poles from the greenhouse into the 3 feeders, then using the connectors, place two horizontal bars between the feeders for the birds to have somewhere to perch....It was only one level at 1st, but, because the Starlings are so greedy decided to add another level and did the same with bars to make a perch, and then just put some feeders on it........Its an eyesore when truth be told, but, as long as the birds get their meal that is all that matters.......

Bullfinches i would love to see Owen, also to capture a good image of a Long tailed tit......Everytime i see them when i am out and about, and even when i see them at home they are always in the worst places to photograph them from......I know most of the common garden birds now.......Not many normal birds to visit our garden now, Bullfinches would be nice as i said, Siskins again would be nice, and Goldfinches and Greenfinches.....Long tailed tits to come into garden to feed off the feeders would be great too

Not sure what is attracting this Jay back to the garden Brian, maybe the black Sunflower seeds. It still surprises me that they do visit as they are more of a woodland bird and usually very shy.......You will get your shot one day
