Buzzard having it's lunch

Spotted this buzzard perched in a tree at the end of the garden today. I managed to get the camera and get outside just in time to see it flap down into the scrub by the stream and pop out with a snack. The light was rubbish and I'm reluctant to push the ISO too high on the 40D.

Anyway, far from ideal as ISO 1000 was still only giving me a speed of 1/160 @ 400m using my max f5.6.

Here's a couple that weren't too bad as it stayed reasonably still - the rest were all blurry efforts.

A canny garden bird, impressive for the IQ.

I was having problems with light today trying to get a squirrel in the garden. I messed around for ages trying different iso and shutter speeds etc... They all still came out poop.

Well the shots that made the grade look really wonderful Phil (are the first two the same shot?)

Unfortunately during the meal it turned it's back on me - typical.

I know how frustrating it can be when the light is so poor.
