Male Chaffinch & my best spot of the day

Decided to do a little bird watching from home today but did not venture out of the house, just had the camera set up in the dining room pointing out towards neighbors trees through the French doors. Even though i got rid of all my trees 3 years ago i am grateful that there are still plenty of trees in neighbors gardens. And now all the leaves have all but gone off the trees it makes it so much easier seeing any birds that land in the trees.
Most of the day usual suspects around, lots of Doves, Magpies, Starlings, a Blue tit this morning, not seen these where i live since late Summer.

Did clap eyes on these two :

Male Chaffinch : Not seen many if any of these around my neck of the woods

But my best spot of the day was this fella, it was just starting to go dark and something caught my eye flying past the end of the garden between the trees. What made me give it a second glance was its yellow tail. Then it landed in a tree of a neighbors a couple of doors away for several minutes, managed to get a few shots off through the glass but images did not look that good on camera screen so opened the doors up and by the time i went to take more photos it was gone. Did not have a clue of what it was until looking through the RSPB website and finding out that it was a Green Woodpecker I think this is the very 1st Woodpecker i have ever seen too.....

Re: Male Chaffinch & my best spot of the day

Well spotted - our chaffinches seem to be either around in numbers or not at all.

We have Great Spotted Woodpeckers in the wood at the end of the garden but I've not seen any Green Woodpeckers yet.

Re: Male Chaffinch & my best spot of the day

Thanks Phil

I was very surprised with the woodpecker, last thing i expected to see, would love to see the Great spotted woodpecker sometime in the future

The Chaffinch is the 2nd i have seen in a 2 week period, both flying on their lonesome though.

Good birding (or what ever it might be called lol). Didn't even have to leave the comfort of the house
