am I being touchy ?

Ive now got a list of folk whos pictures I dont even look at anymore ,because I dont get any feedback what so ever .
one of them has never commented on any of my post let alone a picture.
another thing that annoys me is this type of thing...... seven people commented on anothers picture and he thank one !
how does he think the other six feel ? or am I being touchy ?
perhaps my pictures are crap and seen as snaps but the idea of joining is to be told so.
I do have another theory that they are jealous hahahahahahaha
to me ,to make the site better you need to give love to receive love.
I used to try and comment on all pictures posted ,not always possible because Im not always here ,but not no more.
with the whos on line feature you can see whos looking and not commenting so I know that part is not in my head .
rant over ......back to the grindstone.

Am I being touchy ?

Well, since you asked , yes, I think you are. Look at any forum and you will see that only a very small percentage of the membership respond with feedback on a regular basis. This is the nature of forums and should not be taken as a personal insult. On the other hand, compiling a list in order to avoid looking at other members posts is sureley counter productive and only you are the loser.

My own feedback rating on these pages is, I admit, of a rather low order but then I have never been one for social discourse. Similarly, I seldom offer critique unless called for as I do not want to offend.

Throw away your list Cakey, nobody is trying to hurt your feelings.

Re: am I being touchy ?

Difficult to answer this, so many variables, a photo is subjective. Some of us like landscapes, some may like portraiture and even within these groups peoples opinions may differ.

And then there are some of us who are not confident in offering an opinion, or are afraid of causing offence, as its easy for a comment to be misconstrued.

We are all at different levels of experience, do we offer critique in the hope the individual understands our reason for doing so, both positive and negative comments can be useful.

There will always be some that choose not to respond to comments by others, and others that will respond to everything said, i guess thats human nature.

I look at all the photos on here, easy as its a smaller forum, i dont always comment on them though, for no other reason that i dont feel qualified to offer an opinion on each image.

Its always nice to get feedback, perhaps asking for critique in the header, may get more responses, and take whats said and use it as a learning tool.

As ive said so many variables, there are bound to be more, nothing wrong with giving vent Cakey, thats what a forum is for.

I reply to all threads... many people don't reply to mine... it's just the way things roll. Seriously, I highly doubt it's a personal attack!!!

Re: am I being touchy ?

cheers Niko and Mossy
Z your replies are the ones I like ,99% of the time I can see where you are coming from and they are not a kick in the whatsits like some sites .
I got into photography through fishing ,I soon learnt that the better the camera the better chance of a decent fish photo.
remembering Im in the picture and not the picture taker.
I then started taking pictures of things around me and here I am .
so I see my self as an angler that takes pictures ,so a site like this is where I look up to for help and guideance and can be annoying sometimes after 2 days out,up to my neck in muck and bullets and then a lack of response .
I must say I dont think anyone is out to hurt my feelings any way Im a Cakey and Im hard

Re: am I being touchy ?

It's just the way people and forums are Cakey. Unless you put, win 50 quid for the best comment, not everyone will post.

This is just my own opinion but I sometimes I think the experienced photographers on here and other forums have seen it all before from novice/intermediate togger. They only comment on the people that are also good.
I don't blame them really. If you played for Liverpool/Man u etc, you wouldn't want to hang around and help someone playing for Grimsby would you??...... Ah, but on the rare occasion someone does because they love football and will help at any level.
What would be great in an ideal would is those experienced photographers to say what good or bad about the pictures we do.

As you have said, Z says it as she's see's it and that's good. Even when reading other peoples pictures I'll take on board what is said.

So, the bottom line is....... are the people that are experienced with years of knowledge going to help us newbies? I can tell you the answer but you wont like it, because why help the players at Grimsby when you can talk and play with the premier league big boys.

Now excuse me, I've had a lot of painkillers and no idea what I was on about

Re: am I being touchy ?

I'm one of those who may be on your list. The main reason is I'm on the brink of giving up photography, I had a stream of negative comments on another forum, and would see shots that I thought were poor get raved over. I started to think I didn't have a clue about taking photo's and had no right to comment on others as my own stuff was apparently so poor.

I post my stuff, looking for I guess some positives that make me think it's worth keeping up with taking pics but I'm slowly deciding that I'm never gonna produce any "wow" images. If I never get beyond a snap shot why have I wasted all this money on kit when a £50 compact would suffice.

I don't comment as for some reason, I don't think I have a right to.

Re: am I being touchy ?

I have put pictures on here and people have said they are very good, same pictures on another forum and torn to bits.
Put pics on here, people not keen on them, put them on another forum, lots of praise.

Sorry to hear you feel like giving up, that would be a shame, just took the time to check out your threads, your macro work is top drawer, all to a very high standard, im green with envy over your Broad-bodied chaser.

Your landscape work is very varied, and your not afraid to use P&P to enhance your images.

I occasionally find i lose my mojo, i think its more common than we think, then along comes an image that reignites my interest, and im off again.

As to comments all they are are someone else's opinion, as long as your happy with your work take it from me your are an accomplished photographer, im a long way off your ability.

regards brian.
