Re: Industrial patterns

Thank you Grumps....slim pickings today but I just loved those pipes, like giant hair rollers scattered around.

First one I really just wanted to see if I could get the steam differentiated from the cloud.

Re: Industrial patterns

I think those pipes are great. The background sort of distracts me from them in the first.

We all get days like that

Re: Industrial patterns

I like the 2nd one. Good shapes to shoot, and you've captured them well.
The 1st one I want to look at the hair rollers lol, but my eyes keep getting drawn to the unit behind.... If that was the plan then it worked on me

Re: Industrial patterns

Hi Daisy, I'm going with crowd on this one and vote for the second shot too.

Although I think the first shot with just the Industrial complex (without pipes) would have looked good too.

Re: Industrial patterns

I'll buck the trend as usual and say I prefer the first. Has a lot more balance for me and feels more industrial, I know I am somewhere with some building and industry going on. In fact, it sort of needs more industry though. Might be tempted to shoot that at a slightly lower viewpoint so the pipes dominate the foreground, and the grassy aea in the middle is less visible. The power station or whatever it is would then be coming out approx half to two thirds up the frame just over the pipes. Just an idea.

The second, for me is lacking in real composition and interest. It may become something by changing position, but at the moment the line of pipes doesn't say too much to me. There is also a lot of dead space on the left with distracting rubbish and plants, and the flowers at the back drawing the eye. It almost needs to be cold, clinical, sterile to be just the pipes for me.

Re: Industrial patterns

Completely agree with Stu - I was thinking the same thing myself - that the first is more interesting compositionally, and the second rather lacks in any real focal point. Definitely, with the first one, a lower viewpoint might have worked well - also, would be interesting with a really wide angle.

Re: Industrial patterns

Thanks for that guys...plenty to chew over there. I have an edit of the close up in Panoramic that might suit those criteria Stu...will post it later.
