Not sure this does much for me, it's a bit cluttered and the eye wanders without settling - like it has no real focal point. I would definitely boost the contrast too, as there's no real punch to this one I'm afraid.

I should have said that's a fishing platform. About a foot under that is the lake.

Sorry mate, I'm always honest so I have to say this isn't going anywhere. You are right to spot steps and consider the possibilities as we have all seen step type pathways in pictures, but this is just not one of them in my opinion. At the end of the day, my opinion of course counts for nothing and can be disregarded. However in my opinion, you have done better in other shots.
