Re: My first colour pop...a quick attempt.

The way i do it...

Create a new layer and fill it with White.

on the picture layer, create a mask, and using a black brush (make sure mask layer selected) paint over the areas you don't want, if you make any mistakes use a white brush to select the image back in again.

If you wanted to then delete the background completely, i would apply the layer mask and therefor delete the background (there are other ways of doing it), but with a mask you don't need to delete the background incase it is needed again

Re: My first colour pop...a quick attempt.

If the subject has clean enough lines you should be able to use the extract tool in photoshop and then clean up the edges.

This is done by layer masks... i still have the original background but it is hidden by the mask. The same principal with the colour selection too...

Re: My first colour pop...a quick attempt.

It was very kind of both of you to do that. I will get practising when I have some time. Fudge`s long hair is really hard to do.....

p.s I now want a purple collar for Fudge!!

Re: My first colour pop...a quick attempt.

I think I`m getting better.....

One query though.

When I did the first one, I could paint brush over the white and nothing appeared. In this last one, there was a yellowish trail wherever the brush went.

What have I done differently and is the yellow trail normal?
