Chester Zoo

We went to Chester Zoo yesterday specifically to take some piccies.

The shooting conditions were abysmal. The colour temperature was off the scale, with very strong sunlight and low equinox. We were either shooting into the light or coping with strong reflected light.

The mean temperature was about 3'c, so every time we went into a café to warm up, the lenses became fogged up. Also the photographs were taken at midday, which didn't add to the photography.

Anyway here are some from the day.

Re: Chester Zoo

I have been to Chester Zoo several times and I think it is one of the best Zoos I have visited. Pity about the weather conditions because it is a great place for photographing the animals. As for the photos the first and last one I like but not so keen on the others,
maybe due to over editing in photoshop. In my opinion they could look better being softened a little.

Re: Chester Zoo

Thanks for that Bazza. I will go back and have a look at your suggestion.

Yes, all the photographs have been edited, just to make them reasonably viewable. It would have been lovely to have set the camera up to get the best out of the weather, but the animals wouldn't keep the pose.

Re: Chester Zoo

Last one for me too - great light and somehow has a more natural feel to it.

I grew up a stones throw from Chester Zoo so have great memories of the place.

Re: Chester Zoo

Thanks for the comments guys. This was my first visit to Chester Zoo and I enjoyed the experience, despite the cold. I would imagine in the summer it would be a great place to visit; as it was most of the animals were hiding away trying to keep warm on this occasion.
