Re: Amazon Kindle

I use Kindle For PC, a free download from Amazon.com. I have a small collection of recent Kindle format reference books. The Kindle is a great device that I'm sure you'll enjoy. Should you be interested in any of the following electronic books please let me know.

Re: Amazon Kindle

Should definitely consider getting one Bob - they are much less fatiguing on the eye as they mimic paper ink (LCD's give you 'retina burn').

You seem to have quite a collection in the works - go on, treat yourself

Re: Amazon Kindle

I did have one, but sold it as I still prefer the real thing, I love the smell and feel of books, and the Kindle just didn't have the same feel. Have friends who love their Kindles though, I just love books

Re: Amazon Kindle

I have one I was a bit unsure if I would like it but love it

Re text size its the 3rd from the left when you look at the different text sizes. Maybe the default setting as I have not changed it.

Re: Amazon Kindle

Well because of you AZZ I've gone & done it. I now have the latest Kindle Reader on order through Amazon.com. I called their technical support to ask if the books I've already ordered using Kindle For PC software will download to the actual Kindle. They said it's a piece of cake with the unit's Wi-Fi built in. So, now I wait for the new toy to arrive. Thanks for the heads up on yours.

Re: Amazon Kindle

I have a 3G one too! I prefer real books but it's pretty good. Some free books too at Kindle store. i am trialling The Times being delivered every day to it too. Some formatting errors, not many pictures or diagrams... convenient, main stories are ok but not as good as the real paper.

Re: Amazon Kindle

Must say it's a god send when you're a programmer... you wanna see the size of some of my books, they weigh a tonne!

I love how you can enlarge text too, as you can change it to suit your most comfortable focus distance... I like holding it at a relaxed distance, so bigger fonts and it further away suits me better (Same with my monitor - I prefer a bigger dot pitch as I don't like the device right up to my nose!)

BC - I'll only be using it for books, I think other media such as 'news' is better suited to full colour web-ready devices, like computers and smart phones. Purely because news and video go so well together, imo.

Bob - Nice one! You're gonna love it!

Moonie & Jols - I hate the smell of books, especially new books! All those chemicals yuk! lol

Ca - how many books you read on yours yet? Play with the font sizes as you might be surprised at which ones you prefer (apparently some of us do better with more/fewer words per line).

Re: Amazon Kindle

It's all about space and portability for me. I've got drawers full of Photography and software reference books that could all be electronic. The new Kindle 3 is incredibly tiny so that I can carry it in my camera bag along with my netbook. I'll need to learn its hidden secrets so that maybe I can leave the netbook at home. I love that I can load mp3 music to it as the 3 days I'll be spending on that bus in August could sorely use some entertainment. So much to learm, so much time to learn it when you're retired. LOL

By the way Intel makes the chip sets for the Kindle. I made the chips.
