Re: Castle,Star,City, Rainbow and star trail scapes

Love number 6 DJ

Great technique, and great positioning. It really helps that you know your night sky
I've actually been planning something similar for some time, but haven't really found the right subject.

You've just given me some fresh inspiration!

MD

Thank you all for your comments.

Thanks MD. I had been thinking about doing star scapes and trails for a while and like yourself I wanted something in the foreground too rather than just the stars. It was not untill recently that I had the idea of having some old castle or ruin in the foreground after visiting several around Kintyre and Dumfries and Galloway, also, there is no light polution down that way either so there are many locations to choose from. I could have done things a little bit different with my exposures as I have the Canon TC-80N3 remote switch which allows me to program any ammount of timed exposures, e'g I could have programmed in multiple 40 second exposures with a 1 second delay between each and then stacked the exposures in astrostack astronomy software or something like that. That way I could have had the long star trails and kept the dark sky as well, unlike i did with my single 600 sec exposure. Just something to consider when you do your own.

I really like 5, 6 and 8. How long roughly is 661 seconds?! Must've been quite a wait to see if the shot turned out well!
