Lumix TZ8 First Shots :)

Well, got it today and took it to my local park to try and get some shots, after having a play around at home and with Axel.
I had trouble at the park because every time I got the camera out I got that windy spitting and then burts of showers, with tiny bits of sun. Really annoyed that I couldn't just take pictures!

I got some decent pictures out of iA and P modes, but definitely need to get to grips with what manuel set ups will do it justice, my shots are nowhere near Moonstones, but hopefully with practice I can get the best out of it. I'm going to Chessington soon so plenty of scope for it!

I'm looking forward to learning how to get the best of this camera, I took over 150 pictures but sadly the light wasn't great for fast moving squirrels or birds and had to snap fast to avoid the rain

Re: Lumix TZ8 First Shots :)

Congrats it is a great little compact, definitely fiddle with the setting, as I used it for the first time on IA this weekend, and was a bit peed off with the results, a bit hit and miss, two shots same light, same subjects one would over expose, the next be okay

Having said that, I think it is a good P&S really like the pegs, leaves and the band stand wide shot.

Enjoy the camera, and have fun XXX

Re: Lumix TZ8 First Shots :)

Thanks guys I'm happy with some of them and although it's hit and miss, when it's hit I can see the potential

I will be playing around with the settings a lot moonstone, bit of a novice at knowing what settings to do. Have you set up your custom settings?

Also, anyone know what the P one is, it seems like auto, but not iauto, but I can edit different things, a lot more things on P than iauto...

Re: Lumix TZ8 First Shots :)

The Iauto, is everything is chosen by the camera, including flash on or off, vibration stabilisation, ISO, aperture , etc. You literally point and click, and I found it a bit hit and miss TBH, I think my previous Panasonic P&S was better in full auto mode, it also randomly chooses the scenes modes, which can be fab, or a bit hit and miss. The P mode, is auto, but you can switch things off and also tweak them to suit you, or the weather etc.

I have my custom settings set up for landscape/walking around in bright conditions, as the sun is usually bright.

The next is for portraits of the kids when messing about.

The last I haven't set up , but when I finally nail some good dog action shots, I will save the setting here.

For the MS (my scene) setting I have chosen the High Dynamic option, so if I find something that would look good really punchy, I flip the dial to that.

The scene setting is on Pinhole, so three turns of the dial, and I have all the settings done ready. If I have time and it's not a quick grab shot, I do suggest trying the manual settings, at some point, you do get the best from the camera.

I haven't seriously explored the scene settings yet, I know the landscape scene, is too much for me, as it seriously intensifies the blues and greens, and because the sky is very blue here, it's too much, but could really be good on not so good days there.

I haven't properly used the Macro setting either, just play around with it, but most of all enjoy using it xxx
