Considering changing camera

I am thinking of getting rid of my camera and lenses and getting a Fuji HS10 or a Fuji S2800HD due to the fact that i have a compressed disc in the area of c4-c5 and i find that the weight is becoming an issue.
This is not an area that the surgeons or myself would like to have operated on so this is something that i just have to live with.

I like the idea of the HS10 and the S2800HD. This also lets me carry less weight about.
Do you think that this would be a good choice of camera or is there something better???
If you have any other ideas let me know and i will look into them
Thanks
Allan

Re: Considering changing camera

The main question I'd ask is will you be happy with the (quite severe) drop in quality?

If not I would consider something like the Sony Nex 5, or the new Nikon P7000 - or one of the other more serious 'compact' cameras

Hope your back gets better soon Allan!

Re: Considering changing camera

I had a look at the Sony Nex 5 and i like what i have seen so far and as for the P7000 i found that the contrast at 600 asa started to show early sings of grain which put me of when i tried one that my friend has.
The fact that the Fuji has a larger optical zoom is still drawing me to it but i must admit it is all starting to get that my head is swimming in a lake of cameras.

Re: Considering changing camera

From what I've seen, the longer ranges of these super zooms are not always usable (ie the quality is pretty pants). I would try look at vids on youtube and pics on pbase.com to see some example shots before making a decision

Re: Considering changing camera

how unpleasant. What about the micro 2/3rds cameras? Are they any better? I guess it depends what type of stuff you shoot. The Canon G11 seems to be quite good too

Re: Considering changing camera

They don't come cheap but a lot of the DSLR users who are deciding to downsize are going for the GF1

Re: Considering changing camera

I just looked at your kit list, sell everything and keep the 18-200 (or 18-70) and 300 body or get a D90 body. You still keep DSLR quality and it won't cost you much at all.
It's quite therapeutic selling off the unnecessary kit.
